Angry Dad

My male was not happy that his female stole one of the eggs falling from the nest. She usually builds her own nest and absconds with fry so this time he isn't taking any chances.

This is one of their fry from a previous spawn taking on a blackworm

It's odd, they all have this gold dot on their heads. Only the fry from this species seems to have it.

Haha he chased her all around the tank after that second photo was taken. Mum is a notorious stealer of fry (she likes to have some to look after) so I think he is going to stamp that out early on this time around.

Can that fry eat that worm?

Probably. There are some big ones in there who get blackworms and the little tykes always want to take them on. Blackworms break pretty easily so usually what happens is a little one latches on and then someone else latches on to the other end and they rip the worm in half and both get something to eat.

Never had a fry choke on a blackworm even when they are as big as them.

What kind are they? Can the pair stay together permanently? I love his eyes, so shiny.

I think they are a sort of 'undescribed' species

http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species...gpalangkayara/

Here they are sold through the wholesaler as Betta 'green neon ninja'.

They can live together, and both parents are content to have their fry grow out in the same tank with them. I only separate them out because it is easier.

LOL!! Your male totally reminds me of my favorite Japanese giant monster "Gamera"
