Exclamation Fish Freaking Out!!

My veiltail is usually very friendly and greets me at the glass and observes me all the time. he is always very excited about feedings, so I was really shocked when I showed him the food as usual this morning and he darted rapidly all around the tank, hid from me, and quivered as if he was afraid. He didn't really flare or anything. He has never done anything like this before and I have no idea what is going on. PLEASE HELP!

Hmm...that is puzzling. Did you put the food in? Did he eat?
Have the parameters of his aquarium changed any?

Was your hair the same as always and did you have on some dark nail polish ? Maybe the color you were wearing scared him. Perseus flips out when he sees dark blue .

Could you have startled him? Was it early in the morning? You may have woken him up.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I think it was the nail polish thing. Right after I read that, I went up to the tank to see if he would react and he did every time. Then I went and removed the new nail polish I got yesterday and went up to the tank and he acted slightly suspicious but completely normal. I knew they had preferences for color, but not that bad. Does this happen often? Thanks for everyone's help, if the problem doesn't stop I will post all the info

My HM flares at anything red. There's a bit of red on his thermometer, and he flared at it nonstop until he was finally convinced that it wasn't going to take over his territory. It can't remember how long it took for him to stop, but it was probably 3-4 weeks. Now, he just ignores it.....

He freaks when I wear a red or orange shirt. He must think I'm one huge betta.... Of course, I then feed him, which probably leaves him conflicted. No wonder he bites his fins. ("That big bad betta is giving me food?") LOL
