would a painted turtle be ok in a betta tank

i recently agreed to take in a small painted turtle (right now he's abit over 2 inches) from a friend who's son was no longer caring for it and he is currently is now in a spare minibow 2.5g i have laying around and reading up info its recommended that he be in a 20g. i plan on getting a 20g long in the near future for my betta (in 2 or 3 wks) and now wondering if i can throw the two together or should i use the 10g that my betta is coming out of??

my current 10g has 1 betta, 3 otos, 2 mystery snails and a 5 malayasian trumpet snails though i thought i saw baby snails too.....which will all eventually go into the 20g once bought and cycled.

my 20g will be heated, filtered, soil substrate and pebble capped, starting out mildy planted and as time goes heavily planted

Painted turtles are piscevores, they'll eat everything in your tank.

We used a big rubbermaid tub for ours when we had them.

Don't do it. My brother put good sized goldfish in the aquarium with his turtle. The next day they were all gone. Bettas would be nothing but a snack, lol.

Yea, they take chunks out of everything that doesn't fit into their mouth.

A 20 long will last a while, but a grown male turtle will need 75 gallons while a female will need 125 gallons. 20 long will give you space to put a basking lamp and a UVB lamp though.

thanks i will definately avoid putting them together. funnny thing i bought some food for it a few days ago and it wouldnt touch it and last night i had the idea of giving it freezedried bloodworms (that i give my betta) and that turtle started gobbling it up :P

do you know what they had it on, foodwise? A lot of the time, people are still feeding them fish, because they think it's easier than training them onto pellets.

Our red eared sliders liked freeze dried krill, and gammarus, reptomin turtle sticks, and the occasional rosy red (they're better than goldfish, which are too fatty)

Sorry, dear, wonderful goldfish, it's sad but true. You contribute to fatty livers in pretty much everything that your species is fed to. You are also notorious for inhibiting growth.

I guess that means that I get to keep goldfish as pets again once we move. Oh Darn! ^_^

I guess in this case being fatty is the best thing for them!
