Uethanize?

As some of you guys know. My boy Romeo hasn't been doing to good, and I have tried everything I can to help him.
It started a few months ago. He started losing color, and later getting stress stripes. He was in a heated, filtered, 5 gallon tank. I made a thread on him and got some good advice on what to do, he started coloring up, but then everything went downhill. He lost so much color, started tail biting, and I couldn't clean his tank one week because the water conditioner I was using was making my other fish sick, I was afraid he wouldn't be able to pull through that. So he got fin rot, I don't think I can help him anymore, I have tried many things. I have clove oil, but I want to be sure it is time, I don't want to feel guilty if it wasn't time.
What do you guys think? In this picture you can't see the stress stripes, the lighting isn't to good.

Sorry you have to face such a tough decision.

I think that you take into account the quality of life. If the animal is listless, doesn't eat and looks miserable then you know it's time. Some animals will have good days and bad days, but if you track over a week and the bad out number the good, then you know.

I know, I just hate to see him stressed. He is active, and he eats, but...

That's a tough choice and he doesn't look good but he is still eating. What treatments have you done?

I have tried using oak leaves. (You can see my other thread) that's when he got a bit better, and then it went downhill.
At first I tried keeping the light off, thinking that was stressing him,
No change. Then I tried turning the filter off to see if that would help,
No change.

Right now I don't have any AQ. I have tried AQ before, (not with this fish) and it would never seem to help.
I can get some AQ tomorrow if I have to, but the problem is I may not be able to clean it every day.

Hm... If you can't keep up on water changes because of the conditioner I would recommend either buying a new conditioner or aging it for 48 hours. Clean water is number one.
