Hi all!
Got home from dinner tonight and our whole street is blacked out!
Got no idea how longs it's been out for, but Julio's water has dropped to 25
How can I keep him warm until the power comes back on?
Wrap a towel around the tank and move it to a high point in an enclosed space, like your wardrobe. Heat rises and gets trapped in the space. If you have any way of heating water at all (like if the hot tap is still working), fill a bowl with hot water and leave it in the space with the tank (not in or touching the tank, though).
+1 on Bombalurina's advice. Make sure heat can't escape through the lid, too.
I wrapped the tank lid and sides in aluminum foil to insulate it when we lost power. Then wrapped towels around it. It looked ridiculous, but I think it helped maintain heat. I wrapped the lid separately - so I was able to remove it and look into the tank. Also, there were about 2.5 inches (6-7 cm) of air above the water.
Thanks so much for ur replies
I floated a cup of warm water in his tank.
When that didn't work I wrapped a blanket around his tank.
After carefully doing that, the power came back on!
I was a bit worried with the whole blackout thing, and his temp swinging from one extreme to the other (our weather has gone from 10 days of almost 40 degrees to 20!) but he seems to be doing well
