API Laterite or alternative substrate?

Hi,

Anyone tried the API Laterite for their substrate underneathe 1" of gravel?

I am tired of trying to reinsert my plants that keep coming out of my loose CaribSea Floramax when Yo the snail bull-dozes his way across the tank to get to his algae wafers...
But I have to say, Floramax helped with my plant growth.

I've never used it, but laterite typically goes on the bottom. I know people pile it more in the back, since it can help create a hill effect that lasts. Swords will love it as it is high iron for them. One the plants get their roots in, it will be hard to get them out. And burying them in it should help keep them down.
