Hey. I leave my heater on all the time. I have a 2.5 gal tank with a heater for 2-5 gal i think...without a gauge. It's fine for my bettas. Do you have a thermometer? Just keep an eye on the temp. The temp in my room drops pretty low during the night so it keeps the water regulated well.

I would probably be more worried about it getting too warm during the day. The temp in the room usually drops at night and that's when you'll really need the heater the most!

You should keep it on all day, espically at night.

You have a thermometer, right? Use your heater and turn the dial one spot per hour to warm/cool the water and figure out the right temperature.

There is a thermometer you can stick on the tank side whcih shows you the temperature. Should run you $2-3.

Is this the Hydor Mini Heater?

the junior heater from wal-mart. 4 inches 7-1/2 watt. "avoid direct sunlight do not put in contact with plants". its preprogrammed for 78 degrees and if u get a thermometor to regulate it making sure it doesnt cook and /or freeze ur fish. I took back this heater before i used it so i cant tell u if it works well or not.
