Ranting: Carbon Filter and Odor control

Wow, so I was doing a WC last night with my 5g SPEC V that is having 2 BioMax in the filter. I removed the Carbon bag and put the BioMax in there instead. The tank only has 19 RCS (15 babies + 4 adults), 4 Amano, 1 Golden Mystery Snail. I could smell the raw seafood smell and I am ultra-sensitive to it, as in ready to throw up. As soon as I set up my 12g with the BioMax, I am getting my carobon filter bag back in there...

sorry Tekkguy, I appreciate your suggestion, any thoughts on how I may fit the carbon bag & 2 Biomax in only 2 slots?

Haha... Yeah sometimes the carbon helps with smells. My shrimp tank doesn't smell though, even with an overpopulation of pest snails. Mystery snails are quite nasty though.

Carbon definitely won't hurt anything. I just don't prefer it in a planted tank. You might be able to turn the biomax bag to cram two in there. You can also just fill some nylon pantyhose pouches with biomax if your only concern is seeding multiple pouches to have cycled media always on hand.
