Fed betta with koi food!!

We accidently fed our 2 separated bettas Koi food for over a week.
They now have swollen bellies that will not heal even after we realized and switched back to their pettets. One (female)can still swim and eat normal with a swollen belly. The other (male) is sick and sinks to the bottom, and can only lay on his side. We had to put him in a floating breeding box (in the same tank) to make his swim to the top for his food easier. His belly is swelled up badly. We think it may be the Koi food that cannot digest in their stomach. What can we do? Please help!

Try feeding them a cooked pea each..take a few frozen ones, put them in some water and nuke em for about 15 seconds then let them cool, deshell and squish. You may need to hold it in front of them with a toothpick or something. Do Not feed them anything else until they start to be better. And if the male seems more stressed in the breeding box let him out.

ya know the same thing happened to me. Except, I didnt do it for over a week, it was just one day and my bloated like a balloon!!! the next day, he was floating to the top on his side. It took a month in order for his belly to go down and for him to be able to swm normally but even now he still has a bloating problem; every time i feed him even a single pellet, he bloats.

hes doing okay now... I just started feeding him normally a week ago. 8)

Hi flashygrrl,
I just fed my 2 bettas with pea as you advised. The female liked the pea and ate all I gave (about 1 pea total). She still has a swollen belly, but able to swim normally. The male is showing an attitude. Angry that we are feeding him something else again?? he is still in the feeding box because the 10 gallon tank may be too much for him to swim to the top for food. He is still just lying on his side, and need only 2 strokes to feed himself. We will not feed them anything else for now.. as you advised/instructed. I hope this works. If so... maybe Blaxicanlatino can try this on his betta?
My betta dont float to the top.. he sinks to the bottom, and still struggles to swim to the top. I will keep you posted on the feeding result. Thank you Flashygrrl!
