Yeah, a broader dorsal fin and a stouter, thicker body usually seems to be associated with DT genes. That is why some breeders use DTs to widen the dorsal in their line. It is also why breeding DTxDT is not recommended. The result is a higher percentage of babies with spinal deformities and short bodies.

Most petstore bettas are "mutts" He looks more like a DT to me as he has top fin that runs almost parallel to the anal fin and the split in his tail. Although it is uneven the edges are rounded.
