Can a betta be a picky eater?

I don't know why, but one of my new girls, she refuses everything but daphnia. She ate one blood worm once but never again. I have tried nls and she literally gives them a once over then swims away. Tried omega betta flakes, she snubbed that too. She ate one bloodworm once, after refusing 2 days worth of pellets, but now refuses those too. She loves daphnia though and devours it. She was a little bloated but has hardly pooed at all. She's hardly eating though either.

She looks different ie better bred than the others so my theory is she was fed more live food and now expects it. She needs to get with the program though. ;) any tips?

mine mostly refuse anything but live/frozen food ( which is not a problem for me )..but there is a way to "teach" them to accept other food like pellets/flakes but some may think it's cruel. So, I'm just gonna say..if they are starving...they'll usually eat whatever available. And no, I'm not suggesting you to do that..cos that means I'm a cruel person, that I probably am trying to "misguide" you, to make your betta's life "miserable". LOL

Could be. Humans and other animals can be very picky eaters. All my boys loved whatever I gave them!

They're no different than any other living creature, they have likes & dislikes.

+1 to the post above me. I once had a fish who refused pellets but loved flakes. Now I have Pumpkin Cheesecake, who will get fussy if he gets anything other than pellets.

I'm dealing with a super picky betta right now, so I'm in the same boat Have you tried soaking food in garlic juice? (That's my next attempt!)

I know what you mean. When I first got Chappy, my girl, I had pellets and she would slap them away with her tail after she spit them out >< she prefers flakes, but I make sure that the extras I put in (protein, like crushed freeze-dried krill and daphinia) to weigh out the icky stuff in flakes.

One of my bettas eats betta flakes and LOVES bloodworms but I only give him a couple on water change days. The other will eat pellets and nothing else.

My boy Floyd eats anything that moves, including the planaria worms in his tank, Freddie on the other hand spits out flakes so I have had to switch him over to frozen brine and he usually eats that. He's like my Persian cat and Floyd is my big dumb Labrador that would eat a diaper from the garbage if I let him >.<

Wow, I gave her a pellet while she was cupped during today's WC and she actually ate it. While I was doing my little victory dance, she spat it out, gave it a derogatory glance, and turned away.

Everyone else is like OMGITSPELLETTIME!!! She's like Meh...
