Can this happen?

One of my favorite females in my sorority died. I found her basically with no belly and her internal organs missing (other fish was eating her). I have a suspicion that her abdomen actually exploded because of her extreme eggyness. Is this possible?

I don't think that would be possible.

What probably happened is the other fish began picking at her ovipositor, since it does look like a nice, tasty egg, and then just kept picking.

I'm sorry you lost your girl
