Splitting a 10 Gallon

Okay, so right now I have a male and female Betta in a 10 gallon that is split in half by a divider. I have had my eye on an orange dalmatian male for three weeks and am not happy by how he looked when I saw him today:/ something is wrong with his fins and he has lost a lot of that initial spunk he had when I had seen him previous days. My question is, can I split my tank into thirds so I can get him? Or is that not ideal? I do have an isolation tank I used when Odin was ill, and i thought of housing him in that, but I doubt this Betta would be happy in a dainty 1/2 gal.

You can split it in 3s. I split mine into 4.

But if you are medicating him, it might be best to put him in the 1/2 gallon for now.

Many people split a 10 gallon three ways, even four...and I'm sure their fish are happy and healthy. But, in the future if you are able, I'd try and expand their homes a bit if you can. :) My guys are happiest in a 5+ gallon, and all of my current boys live in 10 gals. :) I think they appreciate the extra room to swim and explore. :)

Plus, if you buy another 10 gallon...you can split it in half, and then you have room for another betta! ;)

I wish I could have another 10 gallon! Unfortunately, the college I am going to only allows 20 gallons per room and my roommate wants a 10 gallon for her fish too:(

Ahh, yes, I know a lot of people have that problem. I'm sure your guys will be fine though, at some point you'll graduate, and then you can have all the fishies you want. :)
