Male & Female in one tank

I have been told that if I put a female betta in with my male he will mate with her and then kill her....kinda like a praying mantis does to her mate. Is this true??

Yes and no. He will not always breed with her. If she doesn't want to breed, the male will attack her and kill her if she is not removed. If they do breed, the female needs to be taken out, or she will be harassed to death.
