For starters, you need at least a 2.5G tank, but 5 is better. A heater is absolutely needed, as the temp needs to stay at 78. You will need plants (fake are fine) and hiding spots as well.

Bigger is always better I say! You should look on your local craigslist as well, there are often very good deals on used aquariums, with heaters, filters and everything else included.

If you are going to get a used tank, please make sure that you disinfect and sanitize it before putting your new babies in it. A couple of washes and rinses with Clorox will help. You have no idea what was kept in the tank previously or how they went "belly up"... this is for all the accessories, etc. You may want to just get new plants if they were included because the bleach sometimes is retained in the plastic, and that will kill your fish. Dry in the sun to make sure it it sanitized well.

a mini bow is good ..it comes with a heater and filter & Light..although you might want to get a nono power filter ( take up less room) and a flat heater. Both those items are under $10.00 each..you can get a 2.5 gallon or a 5 gallon which comes with a tank divider..so you could have 2 bettas..maybe...
