Curls in a crowntail bad breeding, bad water do they straighten out?

I have a betta that was in pathetically dirty water:

He is is clean water now and now that I can see him better he has curls in his fins that almost tangle. Is it possible to improve this? Does anyone know anything about this? He does have pretty coloring which is one reason I grabbed him.

Crown tails are hard to keep there tails nice. My guy squirt sometimes gets "frays" on the end of his tail. Clean warm water will do wonders for your guy

Hard water causes curling in their fins.. if your water is softer than what he was in before, it may uncurl the fins some. There is nothing you can do - as playing with the pH of the water will more than likely kill the fish..

My PH is 7 coming out of the sink so how does that fall on the hardness softness scale?

I suppose he shall be "Curly" if he doesn't unroll and perhaps there will be a "Moe"

don't mess with the hardness or PH of your water. x: it just happens. i can't keep CTs without their fins looking ragged or curled. i think it's cute when they curl. had one that curled bad. just added to his personality.

The guy in my avatar does it to himself cause he likes to lay in the plants and sqeeze into tight places around the wood in his tank. Comes with the CT variety!

I don't plan to mess with the PH. I was just curious to know where it falls on the scale. Here he is today in clean water. I have him a critter keeper for now:
