Honestly, not giving an animal proper care and nutrition IS animal cruelty. You need to show your mother information about properly caring for betta fish and if she is unwilling to help you, consider saving up and buying the supplies you need yourself

If you are unable to get the proper supplies, it may actually be better for your fish to find a new home.

Bettas are fairly easy care fish, but they do have basic requirements. If you can't met these requirements, it is unfair to make the fish suffer.

Your mother sounds rather hypocritical. You could try telling her about how to care for bettas properly but by the sounds of things she is ignorant and won't listen.

My mom thinks that I shouldn't check websites for info and my fish will be fine. I have enough money to buy the materials but I can't. She never really wanted the fish in the first place

Your mom is a hypocrite. If she wants the best for animals then why won't she let you take proper care of your betta? Honestly, in this situation, I would recommend giving it away. You can obviously not take proper care of it in your situation.

I am trying to take care of it. I said that if she won't buy a heater, I 'd get it from amazon myself. She said that fish don't need heaters in the ocean
