Petco Rescue and Mini Rant

So. I went to Petco today to grab a few more aquatic plants, and was absolutely horrified! Every single Betta had dirty water, and several were actually dead / decomposing. I was disgusted. I found this little guy and decided I had to get him out of there. When I mentioned the dirty water conditions to the lady at checkout, she said "Well it's not Thursday, so it hasn't been cleaned yet." I mean seriously, in those little cups how could they only clean them once/twice a week?

Anyways, here's my new little guy in his cup while he was acclimating to the tank. You can see the disgusting water quality.

And here's him stretching out a bit after the acclimation.

I'm still trying to come up with a name for him, so if anyone has any suggestions let me know!

Poor baby! How about Lucky, because that's what he was that you came along! When my son and I went to pick out our boy (ETA: also at Petco), we were appalled at the conditions too, and pulled aside their fish guy to point out several that were dead in their cups--very few looked healthy at all. Sad that this is the only place nearby that sells fish at all. :( But he's lovely and very lucky to be in a new environment at any rate!

It's sad that it's standard care. -.- I'm thinking this poor boy may have SBD, so I'm keeping an eye on him.

HA!

Poor baby. Lucky to find a caring home.

I keep thinking... we should start a petition to fight against this kind of abuse. Like one that says we won't buy fish from suppliers who don't keep them in minimum healthy standards.

Chase. I have always liked that name. However I would wait and

a) see what comes to you
b) wait a day or two until his colors come through to pick a name that suits that

I know that feel. I think the worst I've ever seen (after a walmart, but that is, unfortunately, expected) was a specialty local petstore, that has ultra expensive health cat/dog food, tons of adorable and well-cared for feathered, furred, and scaled animals, but terrible, AWFUL conditions for its bettas. Just plain awful....
Your new guy is really handsome. I'd call him Pebble, or Finn.
