Need Suggestions on Tank Mates please!

Hey guys.

I have a 10 Gallon Tank with a single Betta in it.
There is also a Ivory Mystery Snail, and I was told that he takes up alot of space because of the waste he produces. I can move him to another tank if need be.

I'm looking for tank mates for my Betta. It has gotten kind of boring with just him in it, and hopefully by adding the correct fish, I won't make him too unhappy.

Suggestions, please?

the african dwarf frogs make great tank mates. they are unique and the frogs just eat bloodworms so everything works out hats what i would recommend

I can't keep those frogs. I have a big hole in the top of my tank that the filter and heater stick though, they can easily escape.

Anything else?

Not Danios. Most are complete spazes and swim everywhere, which means they need a lot of room to swim (36" min). Some can be nippy too.

Maybe a few Neon Tetras or Cories?

Jury seems to overall be 50-50 on the neons if you google it. Either the Betta nips neons as they pass, or neons eat Betta's tail, or yada yada yada....those who don't have problems might have bigger tanks though.

Otos are very safe tank mates, they don't do much to aggravate the betta.

Cories are GREAT fish, and a few dwarfs would be happy in a ten gallon. I would highly suggest a bottom dweller, as they would (most likely) stay more out of his way, and thus he would be more likely to accept them.

Keep in mind though, that whatever you get may not work out. Some bettas just don't want tank mates.

One thing you can do in acclimatizing:
1) quarantine your new fish for at least 2 weeks, if not 4.
2) put your betta in a temporary home (even if its just the cup he came in, floating in another tank for temp control)
3) rearrange his decor a bit
4) move your betta's new roomies into the tank
5) replace the betta in his tank.

Thats the method that is most likely to garnish success over the whole invaders-to-his-territory thing. If he's last in, he might figure its the new fish's tank, so he'd better play nice.

A shoal of 5-6 pygmy cories (or any other small cory species) would look great, and be lots of fun! Cories are totally non-aggressive so you won't have them nipping your betta, and the cories are too thick skinned and prickly for your betta to pick on (although I doubt he would even bother to). It would pretty much max out your bio load, but it would be a great mix!

Lol- I read that link flashy. Why yes, 1 angelfish and 1 betta in a 10 gallon seems like a great mix- NOT! I can't imagine someone keeping angels and bettas together in a properly sized tank, never mind one that's waaay too small for the angel.

So 6 Pygmy Cories then? That would be fine with or without the snail? I need clarification on that please.

Can you buy them at Pecto/Petsmart? Depending on how good the tanks look, anyway.
