Bettas with other fish

I have a male betta, and he's kind of boring just by himself, so I want to add other fish to his tank. I'm not interesting in breeding bettas, so a female betta is out of the question. What fish(es) can I put in the tank without any problems (i.e. them eating each other)?

There can be a good amount of options, but it all depends on what you have.

Tank Size?
Filtered?
Heated (should be)?

I'm buying a new tank when I buy new fish. It will be filtered but not heated, and 2gallon most likely.

If you have a betta, the temperature needs to be heated. They are tropical fish and become very lethargic if the temperature is kept under 76 degrees, if not 78 degrees plus.

I wouldn't put anything else in a 2G tank with a betta. Maybe soem Ghost Shrimp.

That shouldn't matter. You could have your house at 82 degrees in the day, but at night the temp can easily drop 8+ degrees, which can kill a fish.

A single betta is about all you can keep in a two gallon tank.

If you can afford it, upgrading to anything larger would be better. My guy is floating around in a 5 gal. tank I got from Freecycle. My snail is in a 5 gal. I got from Goodwill. I saw a 10 gal. kit at Walmart that cost 1/2 as much as it did from the chain pet stores.

Good luck!
