I cut the heater off in my community tank a couple of days ago, because it never came on, i got a thermometer the other day and it reads 84 degrees, and this is without a heater, tht is a little too high i think, but i dont have the heater on, is this bad or should i just not do anything about it
its located on the outside, but i used my friends in tank thermometer and got the same reading, im sure my heater is off because it has an indicator light and is set to 78, you cant set it any higher or lower, it is made for that specific temperature, and i've had it unplugged for a couple of days, i dont know why the temp is that high, im lost
Tell us about your tank set up. Where is it located? What size? Do you have lighting? What kind?
If the heater is preset for 78, it won't come on if the water temp is higher than that.
Those stick on thermometers tend to measure the outside air temp. It's better to get the inside the tank thermometers. I saw some at WalMart for just $2.
ok it is a 10 gallon tank on a stand, the lighting is just a basic cover with lighting fixture, i have 1 live plant, forget the name of it but is brown and grows pretty fast, i have 2 silk plants, 1 little ornament with lots of holes the danios like playing in, a cave for my red tailed black shark, a filter and heater.
My guess is that your light is incandescent, and is producing a lot of heat. That, or it's in direct sunlight and you've got a "greenhouse" effect. I'd recommend keeping your heater plugged in, as it will prevent temperature fluctuations if the heat source goes away.
im not sure i know its not the long bulbs its screw in, thats all i kno, its checked on the box the top came in but i cant quite picture it in my head, thts no help i guess, lol
