Do people breed for one betta?

So, I know that there are a lot of experienced betta breeders on here, but i was wondering if people ever breed just for "pet" bettas? Like, you cull almost the entire spawn until you have a small few to care for and not 500?

Just a ranom question I thought of.

I don't think that's a good idea. It's a lot of work to raise bettas, and culling a bunch of perfect bettas just because you want a pet? Not a super great idea. If you just wanted a breeding standard pet betta, plenty breeders on here can hook you up.

that makes sense.

I don't know, I was sitting there and I was like, "I wonder if people do that?"

I'm not saying I'm going to do it, I don't even think I want to breed in general xD Was simply wondering if others did.

I have read that you can remove the female after the first eggs are released so she won't have any more, then just hatch those few. I have no idea if that is a recommended thing to do.

Theres probably people that do but surely it would be so much easier to just go out and buy the fish you want for a pet rather than breed, raise and cull haha

Gotta agree with Rubin....would be alot of work for the enjoyment of a single fish.

Show oriented breeders may cull whole batches if fry doesn't meet the criteria. But they don't intentionally breed hoping to only get one. Most things done in relation to breeding depends on the goals set.
