Just got my Betta today...need advice.

Ok, well I just got my betta today. I have a 6 gallon tank, water conditioner and thats it. What else is needed? The pet store didint say anything about a heater...and they are never in a heated tank when i see them for sale. Do they absolutely need a heater or is it just better for them with the higher temp? Also what else am i doing wrong?

Room temperature for a Betta is fine. Six gallons gives you some room to work. Check out your other post, read the link about cycling, and if you want to do more with the tank let me know.

and picking up some betta food may help

and about the heater, i highy suggest picking up a 25 watt for your 6 gallon. room temp is 68 degrees. bettas live in 78 degrees. if you leave it a room temp he will become lethargic, prone to illnesses, wont be happy, and die alot sooner. after i got my betta a heater, he was like an entirely new fish.

good luck with him!

I have to agree with the Heater...They seem so much more lively with a heater..I know i would not want to be in chilly water all the time....bbbbrrrr

Room temperature, by definition, depends on the room temperature. It is only 68F if you keep your thermostat at home set on 68.
