Artificial Marimo Ball?

So I was at Petco the other day looking for a Marimo ball. They were out, but they did have what looked like an artificial marimo ball. I wish i could remember the name of it....but the packaging claimed to remove impurities from the water....has anyone heard of this? Are they safe?

I've heard of it, though I don't know if it would really remove any impurities. Could try it, but I wouldn't know if it would work all that well.

I was more looking for decor/something for my betta to play with. In the past, I've used marbles and ping pong balls, but none of my fish ever seemed very interested. the (still unnamed) fish i have now is very curious and active though, and he likes to touch things and explore (especially things near the surface of the water). I think he'd appreciate a floatie lol :>

Most real marimo balls don't float. I've never seen a real floating one, anyways. I saw someone else on here with a fake one. Theirs didn't look like it was floating either. Could try a floating betta log. Or even teach your fish tricks. I taught one of mine to "kiss" my finger for treats. The girls in my sorority have started to jump for food, and they let me pet them for food as well.

really? I wonder what it is at petco they are selling under the name "marimo ball" o_O lol. That may still work though, the tank bottom is bare. Maybe I'll start training him to get in his cup without a fuss XD most of my other fish would be like "durrrrrrr what's this?" *get sucked into cup* but this guy swims for his life every time.

I have no idea. If it says it floats, it may be worth it. Is this it?

Says it'll only last about 2 months. I think I'd wait on a real one. :/

Getting him in without a fuss would be a life-saver...trust me!!!

hahaha yeah, yesterday I got him while he was at the surface for the first time...I usually have to plunge my hand all the way to the bottom of the tank (which i hate doing!) what's weird is that every time i open the lid, he comes to the surface right away because he thinks I have food. but then as soon as he sees the cup he rushes to the bottom >.<

I was afraid to buy that fake one because the packaging didn't exactly specify what it was made of....green fur maybe? XD

No idea. It isn't allowed for purchase or shipment in California, though. I found that a little weird.
