Betta and Plecostomus

My betta bit the eye stalks off my snails and they died. I dont feel right putting more snails in his tank knowing this will happen to them. Can I put a plescostomus in the tank? They are alge eaters and would serve the same purpose.

That is too general. Not all plecos are algae eaters. Which species are you talking about? If you mean the common plecos, then you will only be required a 100g tank and over. They reach 18 inches which is far too big. If your tank is smaller than a 15g, then I am sorry but no plecs will ever fit there except otos. Otos need a continuous supply of algae.
