I have to disagree. A betta would be perfectly fine in a 1.5 permanently if water changes are kept up. A heater is not optional, these are tropical fish.

Added to all the water conditioners/dechlorinators, fancy foods and special tank decorations, a heater to warm the water for one's betta sounds like the epitome of extravagance; what next, frequent water changes?

Yes, although I think parents of youngsters asking for an aquarium heater for their fish think the joke's on them!

This is a kid and getting a larger tank is obviously not an option for him. We need to help him do the best he can with what he has.

A 1.5 is fine. A heater needs to be first priority.

I am a bit disheartened at some of the responses that have been posted to this thread.

This young person came to the forum looking for help, and he has been insulted, his parents have been insulted, and people are making fun of his questions.

OP, please do not take the negative posts seriously. You really should keep up the water changes add a heater as others have said, and your fish will be much happier and more active!
