Exclamation Possible finrot and other unknown diseases

ok so i went on vacation this weekend for about three days leaving my betta unattended. i know, bad move. im kinda new to this. i got home today and his fins seem shorter and end in little white cottony balls. some are red. also on the top of his mid section he has a very unnoticable patch of green fuzzy. he also seems a bit bloated. he is a year old male crown tail bought from petsmart. i will try to include a good picture soon but any one know what is wrong? PLEASE HELP. also i havent been changing the water very often.

I can't see the picture.

Three days should not have harmed him. There's something else going on. The red might be septicemia, which is bacterial. He might be fin biting if there are no black edges.

What is the size of the tank?
Temp? Is it consistent?
What is your light schedule?
Water change schedule?
What additives do you use?
Do you have a filter? Decor?
What do you feed him?
Any previous illness?

I would add AQ salt, predissolved, added slowly to 1tsp per gallon. Also add a double dose of stress coat and try uploading the picture to tinypic.com and then post the [ img ] code.

Bettafix is bad, it contains tea tree oil which can coat his labyrinth organ and suffocate him.

He needs to have a consistent temp. Your light schedule and food are OK, but you need at least two water changes a week in that small of tank - a 50% and a 100%. It is probably why he's sick and he probably won't get better if you don't up the changes. Clean, warm water should help his fins and its the first step but he may have a bacterial infection and a fungal infection. I would treat it with Kanaplex - kill two birds with one stone.

Start with aquarium salt, predissolved (important) added slowly to 1tsp per gallon up to 3tsps per gallon. Use Indian almond leaves if you can. Cover the tank with suran wrap with holes in it to increase humidity and help with his labyrinth organ and remove the bettafix with a 100% water change. Add stress coat at a double dose to help his fins and get VitaChem if you can.

I'd change the water ASAP.

You can PM Callistra or Sakura8 and ask them about meds if you are planning to use them - they know more about meds and could suggest more because Kanaplex is hard to find.

I hope he is able to make a full recovery!
Good luck to you both.

Poor guy :( he looks pretty pale, clamped, and like he may be shedding his slime coat.

I hope he makes it!
