There is this mind blowing thing that happens when you realize the miracle in every fish.
It seems crazy to think of their long history beginning as a cell in primordial juices leaping through evolutionary time until is appears in ancient Thailand as a spirited fish in a shallow pool. From there, it becomes a pawn in the most popular gambling sport of the time, a fierce contestant. Soon after, it becomes a beautiful ornament numbered, shipped, and (if very unlucky) ends up on a shelf in a small cup, one of many.
If even one thing was different in history, none of us would have our beloved fish and perhaps even not be aware of them at all. Its like realizing that without the expansion of commerce through technology, many of us would never taste oranges or corn.
More so, the awareness of Betta individuality and worth is baffling (see what I did there?). Once you bond with your pet, you realize that it is an individual and will be the only one to exist on the earth in that very specific way. You realize that you have to give it the best life it can possibly have because it matters, just like any life. You are all that being has in the world, and it's successful existence depends on your ability and actions.
