Poem I wrote today

Here is a poem I wrote earlier, just thought I would share. I have not edited it yet so there are a few typos, but here it is:

A Day at the Zoo

A blonde-headed child
sits back-to-the-camera on a ledge, gazing at the
elephant who stands, melancholy,
in the background. The sky is an
African blue with a few dashes
of cloud there and there. The mother
notices the camera with a subtle smile,
one delicate hand on the eager
childís shoulder. She wore dresses
then. This the kind of
photograph everyone thinks of,
full of candid nostalgia on its
aged surface.
Itís My favorite.
But there is another photo tucked in the
same sleeve of the dusty album.
This one bears the image of the same
sky, the same warm colored rock
scaping the limit of the lens,
and a melancholy elephant.
A blonde-headed child
sits back-to-the-camera on a ledge.
She is alone; a perfect carbon-copy of
her other self, but without her
mother smiling at her side.
