I got Jazz last week from Petsmart. Other than arguing with me about food, he's been healthy and active. Last night, I noticed two little white spots on him, one on the little fin on his side that he navigates with and another on his body. I've had fish get ick in the past and have had no luck treating it.
So what should I do? I have two or three kinds of ick medicine from when my neon tetras got ick, but they died anyway.
Here's the list:
What size is your tank? 5 gallons
What temperature is your tank? 78 degrees
Does your tank have a filter? no
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? no
Is your tank heated? yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? none
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Aqueon pellets (which he spits out); bloodworms
How often do you feed your betta fish? once a day
How often do you perform a water change? Every 4 days or so (he's only been here less than a week)
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Stress Coat; tank conditioner (yes, I know that's redundant)
Have you tested your water? No
If so, what are the following parameters?
Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Only the two white spots
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? No
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Yesterday
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No
Does your fish have any history of being ill? His dorsal fin has a raggedy edge since he came home, which is why I started the Stress Coat
How old is your fish (approximately)? Unknown; Petsmart find
I just love this little guy, and if he goes the way of the neon tetras--well, I just can't think about that. Any ideas? Has anyone here successfully treated ick?
