Maybe if you just finished cleaning their tank/bowl and got algae on your hands? Idk how your betta containment systems look...but if mine are green for any reason...I can end up picking up a whole lot of green gook in the cleaning process...if you don't wash your hands afterward, or blow your nose or something, that could be it.
