brown balls

My betta fish has two brown ball like things hanging from a thin brown thread below his head. There's no blood in the tank. What could these be?!

how big are they. how long have they been there?
to me it sounds like poo. bettas poo from higher in the chest area not from their behindes

they're a little bigger than his eyes. that's a good point, didn't know where they pooed from. thanks!
