Heater/thermometer saga continues...

So!!

I still feel like there is something shady going on with my heater and or thermometer.
I went to the aquarium yesterday and got a fancy digital thermometer (where the end sits in the water and the digital device is outside if the tank), and I have come to the conclusion that the heater is the culprit!

It's been set on 26 since last night and the highest it's gotten is 24.5 and is constantly fluctuating 1-1.5 degrees.
This is bad yes? It's a 25w heater.

So now I'm testing his old 10w heater to see which is the lesser of two evils until I can go and get a new heater next week!

Any advice?

Fluctuations of a few degrees are not going to hurt your fish. Its a sudden BIG change in temp that causes a problem. For example the tank is 78F & within seconds to minutes the temp drops to 70F, that is not good. It is not uncommon to have some fluctuation in temp. My heaters are set on 80F, however if the house temp drops to low 60's the tank temp may drop to 78 & in when the house heats up to mid 70's the tanks may go up to 81-82F. If your heater is NOT getting to the temp you want then you probably need a new or higher watt heater. I have two heaters in my 46g because one heater couldn't heat the entire tank properly.

Ok cool thanks for the advice. So then I guess I shouldn't be worried about the 1 degree fluctuation?

I think I burnt out this heater by accident so I will go to the store and get a new one :)
Thanks so much Shellica :)

You're welcome & no don't worry about small fluctuations of just a couple degrees +\-.
