Moss Ball

So i just bought a marimo moss ball from Petsmart.
Is there anything I need to do before i put it in the tank?
There is some debris at the bottom of the cup it is in right now.
Should i wait till after a water change to put it in?
Water change is due tomorrow.

You can buy those from petsmart? Are you sure its not the exo terra thing?

Also, I have heard things about pet stores clumping java moss together and calling it a marimo moss ball.

I would wash it and put it in, I see no reason to wait.

Yup, from Petsmart. They've always carried them as far as i know.
Do you mean wash in tap water? or "Primed" water or old tank water?

Sometimes moss balls can carry undesirables (ex. parasites). I always qt mine for a week in non-treated, regular old chlorine tap water. As long as the moss ball is healthy (has no brown dying spots) it will be just fine and the chlorine will kill of anything that it will be carrying. Then soak it in treated water for a day or two after its tap water soak, and plop it in the tank during the next water change. Viola!

Those things are super easy to take care of... very low light. I'm sure it will be a great addition to your tank! I've had mine for a little over a month now, thinking about getting two or three more to spruce up the tank...
