Male or Female?

My sister just had to get a betta. :D
It was living in horrible conditions at Walmart (All of the bettas but 4 were dead) and he/she is beautiful!
This little monster is living in half of a breeding trap in my tank, until my sister gets him/her a tank of its own :D

She could pass for a young male in my opinion but knowing that she is from walmart, I'm going to assume that she's not as young as one would think and is probably a female. Also she just looks girly to me.

Oh it isn't even full grown, well I don't think so. I got a baby betta at petsmart a few weeks ago and they are the same size - probably about an 1 inch but maybe a little over that.

I want to say young male.. anal and dorsal point to male, but ventral and body points to female lol.. hard to say exactly.

Not a DTVT, but a DTPK.

See if you can get it to flare at a mirror.. if you can look at the beard. If it's a good size then I would go with male, as a female's beard is a bit smaller.

If you can't get it to flare, don't use that as a judge as both sexes flare.

I'm voting female, but it's just a gut feeling. :) No basis in actual fact or anything. ;) My girls are much smaller than that, with the largest being about an inch long, the smallest being closer to 3/4". Their fins look very similar, but without the point that the top fin (sorry...I should know the terms...) does.

Whatever he/she is, they're cute! :)
