I'm worried about fishie

I'm worried about Fishie. He's still refusing to eat anything that isn't blood worms, his fins all of a sudden look like their getting smaller, and he doesn't flare up AT ALL anymore. He's still swimming around fine and when blood worms do come around he goes insane for them. But something just doesn't seem right. His fins have some rips in them and I don't know where they came from, they appeared over night...

I've had bettas before in even .5gal tanks and they lived a few years as long as I was always on top of their water change...

Have you tried soaking his pellet food in garlic juice? He might just be a really fussy eater and its making him a little sick. Like a child refusing to eat their veggies.

I'm sorry you're having troubles

In an aquarium that size you need to be doing at least one 50% water change and a 100% water change per week; one water change alone won't keep the toxins at a safe level (fish poop and uneaten food release a toxin known as ammonia, and fish release ammonia from their gills instead of urinating). It sounds like he may have fin rot, which is usually attributed to poor water quality.

With clean water you should find that his fins start to grow back. You may want to do, for now, two 50% water changes a week and one 100% water change (remember to acclimatize your fish back into his aquarium when doing a 100% water change; also remember to rinse the aquarium thoroughly to remove any fish waste/build up of toxins/bacteria).

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know, there are multitudes of topics available that can explain the vast majority of things about betta care!

Garlic juice? I've never even heard that. He loves the blood worms and goes insane for them but anything else he refuses.):

I'll start doing that. Thank you. At first I was told if was probably from flaring up to much because the rips weren't that big, but then when I woke up one day he started having all his fins down all the time and the tail fin had ripped more. I've never had this happen with my veil tail, and he lived a good 3-4years in a tank the same size.): I wish I had the space and money to get AT LEAST a 5gal for him

Heres fishie now.
This happened over night. He's fins ripped more, he doesn't flare up AT ALL! Not even at the cats why they walk by. He dulled down, and he seems more lethargic then normal.): I'm really worried and really scared. I'm picking up a new tank, heater, filer, rocks, new everything today. Can you tell whats wrong with my Fishhie?

His "elephant ears" have always been like that and same with his two run fins under his little elephant fins... never owning an elephant ear I didn't think much of it. but now ALL his fins are down and ripping! This makes me want to cry I've never had this happen before!!! I should have suspected he didn't feel right when I first got him because he refused to eat. I haven't even had him for that long!);

Here is another photo. He's a little camera shy. Even with the state he's in I have to sneak up to take a photo or else he darts into his plants
