I can't afford a filter. Or a heater. My other fish survived fine. He is dead now but he was in a bowl even. I wish i could but i dont have the money right now.

Okay. I found one for $2.29. I can afford that. Hopefully it works. I saw it online at petsmart. I'll look for it tomarrow at the store. Thank you for your help.

If you can't afford it then reconsider buying any more fish until you can have all the proper equipment (heater, liquid testing kit, etc). And did you acclimate the betta?

u said shes not eating blood worms or pellets u should try betta flakes i have some for jack and kate and they both eat no problem my brand is omega one natural protein formula flakes but if you get flakes make sure there fish not gold fish flakes cuz most of those dont have fish in them some do but some dont.or you colud get trpical flakes

It has been a couple of days now since she has died. I have not purchased anymore fish yet. I am waiting to buy a filter first.

It's good that you've decided to wait. I would wait until you can get a filter and heater. The heater really is important. Even if you live in a tropical climate, it cools down a lot ot night and the drop can be very stressful on a fish.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It always sucks to lose a fish. :(

Thank you. I live in Southern California and so generally it stays pretty warm. I have been looking into discount filters and heaters.

Ariel, why don't you look around on your local craigslist? I see people selling lots of fish supplies for very cheap, and people even regularly give things away for free. You can get away with not using a filter if you commit to doing water changes every single day, but in the long run it's much easier to use a filter.

It's very wise of you to decide to wait. There's no point in putting another fish in that tank until you're sure you have the perfect environment for them, otherwise they'll probably just die again.

I've only ever seen one heater cheaper than that. I actually bought it (from Wal-mart) and it was a piece of garbage. I've heard good things about that Hydor heater, though.
