Post Marbled Fish?

I put this on the breeding portion of this forum because I figure you guys would have the most knowledge.

What exactly is marbling? From what I understand, it is when the scales on a fish continue changing colors after much of the fish has finished growing. Am I right?

What are some photos of marbled bettas? I think I have seen one on the threads, but I don't recall any others, and I would like to see some visuals.

Is this "Marbled" effect more common in a gender? In a type (CT,VT...?)?

Marble is a 'jumping' gene that causes the fish to change color. Since it is the genes that control coloration it is no more common in one fin type or one gender. The fins can change color as well.

A good example of a marble, note the unpredictable patches of color or lack thereof-

Want to add that "marbling" usually occurs within the first 6 months. But some "late" marbling can change after they're 8-12 months. Usually these late changes enhances their original/dark colors. But I once had a marble that changed into a totally different dark color at a late age.

Color change often occurs in this sequence - dark color change into pale then dark again. Often they return to their original colors, sometimes they show different pattern, and sometimes they turn into a totally different color. Marbling is unpredictable - you'll never know what the end result will be until it stops changing, specially when dealing with multiple colors like koi, dalmation etc.
