How to restrict flow on filter

I bought a 2 gallon hexagon tank from Petco. It came with a very quiet filter but when I run it the flow seems very strong and makes my Betta have to swim very hard.... I have removed the filter and place a piece of plastic in front of the impellar. This is to reduce the size of the opening which draws the water in. That should reduce the flow correct?

Its for larger filters. It can be bought where they sell filter replacements.

Yes, you can cut it to size. To baffle my filters, I put it in front of the filter where the water comes out and attach it using a rubber band. It's not the most elegant solution but works great, plus adds another layer of filtering.

I know it's not the same as an HOB but this might help: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=30139 I did this for my in tank filters as well, I just cut it smaller and duct taped it to something either the back of the filter or the hood or even the edge of the tank. I use it in my 3 gallon, 5.5 and 10 gallons and it's worked great. I've also just taken a strip of duct tape, folded one edge up longways and tapped the still exposed side above the outflow to reduce surface movement but it still has a flow that's directed more downwards.

Thanks lil but I dont have that type of filter.. Mine hangs inside the tank and has slats cut into the housing... there is an impellar that draws water through the slats and pumps it up through a small 1/4" outlet that then flows up and through a carbon filled cartridge and cascades out into the water. My concern is the intake creates a strong pull into the filter

Yeah, I had a very similar one in my 3 gallon but I was still able to tape something or put the bottle baffle over the outflow. But sorry you just said in the original that you were worried about the flow hence I assumed lol sorry.
