Shredded tail?

Hey so I have a betta named Grif who I've owned for a couple months now. This week I moved him to a 20 gallon tank with live plants and corys. I noticed today that is tail looks shredded. I tested for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates all were at 0. I'm not sure what could be causing this? The substrate is a soft sand so that isn't it.

Here's a sorta blury video from my phone of his tail.

Thanks for any help!

Does the tank have ornaments other than the log thing I see in the picture? Sorry can't view the video at the moment.

How often do you do water changes for the 20 gallon? He might be stressed? Kind of looks like the dorsal fin has been bitten, we should wait until someone else comments about it.

I do 15-20% weekly. Even with that I've gotten no nitrates showing up off my test kit and I know it works because I've used it for my other tanks. Shoul I alter how often I do water changes? Could he just be stressed from the tank change and eventually adjust? I didn't notice until today and it's been a week since I've move him.

No the water changes are fine, I feel like it would just be stress, I would leave him in there so he gets used to it. Just keep the water nice and warm and clean like you are doing and it should be fine in a month or so :)

Alright. Do you think maybe it's the corys or his log? The corys don't seem to bothers him but he swims in and out of his log a lot. He doesn't really seem stressed to me, he still behaves normally and comes up to see me and beg for food. But I suppose he could could be stressed from going from a 2.5 to 20. It's just weird I hadn't seen this until today!

It could be the log snagging his fins. The cories don't exactly have mouths that can bite, they just suck lol I was going to suggest tail biting but they aren't chunks, at least they don't look like it when he's not flaring. If you do the old pantyhose trick and run it over the ornament, if it snags on it then it will also rip your betta's fins.

Alright! It mostly looks like tears. So should I try removing it and see if it heals? How long would that take? Although I didn't feed him this morning so maybe that stressed him out?
