Cycled?!!!!

So,
I added Tetra Safestart 8 days ago.
I couldn't resist testing today....
results are:
0 ammonia
0 nitrites
40-80 nitrates

I think i'm cycled...nitrates seem rather high.
Should i do water change now?
if so, how much of a change?

I yearn for this day. Did you have fish in there? I would love to cut this process short.

Looks to be so? Although unless you had seeded material in that tank then that's super quick, fastest I've ever seen. I believe an end of the cycle calls for a 60-70% water change if I remember correctly and then you can immediately add your fish.

*Edit: after you test again to make sure the nitrates are in a safe zone for your fish. if not do another water change, about 50% the next time.

You add the TSS with fish already in.
No seeded material, but the tank was running with my betta for 7 weeks before adding the TSS.
So are the nitrates too high? is it dangerous?

Oh okay, didn't know it had been running prior, that makes sense! and that's great to hear! I'll have to pick some up next time I want to cycle a tank lol

Nitrates shouldn't go over 40, but preferably keep them at 20 or lower.

Once opened, the bottle is no good after a day.

And I do not understand how you can go 7 weeks without completing the cycle. You do want your Nitrates to be 40 or less.

Funny thing, I am still cycling I guess. Not sure what I did wrong, but I do not seem to have any nitrates even after a nitrite spike. Just when I think I know what I am doing LOL
