Best Anti-Bacterial To Keep On Hand?

Okay, so most of us know that stuff like MelaFix is bad because it irritates the labyrinth(sp?) organ of the betta and could suffocate him.

What are some fish medications that don't actually harm your fish while attempting to heal it? Like, stuff that doesn't contain Melaleuca.

Specifically, I'm looking for a medication that will heal torn fins, my halfmoon got into a fight with the filter intake. >.<

Well for torn fins, he doesn't need medications. Warm, extra clean matter should suffice. The best antibac all depends on what you are fighting.

+1 on Matt's advice. For torn fins, just lots of warm, clean water should be sufficient. You can also ensure he has good quality food, to maintain good health and a strong immune system. (This can help him ward off any secondary infections.)

If anything, you can add a little stress coat while he's healing up.

But what both LBF and Matts said; clean, warm water is the absolute best thing. So long as you keep that up he should be fine.

Okay, thanks guys. The rip is pretty bad. Like a whole chunk is missing and I don't know if it'll ever come back completely, but I'm going to add some Stress Coat just to see if it'll help.

I'm not condoning betta fighting here, I'll keep my opinion to myself, but I do know that a lot of people who fight will place the fish in with some salt afterwards as a preventative.
