Tetra SafeStart

I was wondering if any of you guys has had experience in using this product, and if it is effective in speeding up the cycling process. Also, after adding SafeStart to the water, how soon should fish be added?

I added it because my ten gallon kit came with a packet containing about 3 doses and I think it may have helped a little bit. I started getting nitrites a little bit earlier than usual.

I personally wouldn't bother with it, though.

And I think I heard that once you open the bottle it's only good for about a week... I could be wrong on that, though.

Safestart is great stuff. Very effective when used properly.

Add your fish right away. In fact you need the fish in there to produce the necessary ammonia required by the bacterial colonies.

I was going to mention what Ryan did. I've never used it (though I did pick up a bottle the other day, just to experiment with), and you definitely need to have the fish in first, preferably for a week or so until your ammonia reaches 0.25. :)

I've used the API product with great success several times before, and for that one, once it's been opened you need to use it within 48 hours, otherwise it's no longer effective.

I figure with all these things, it can't hurt, so if they're not too expensive and you want to try it, go for it. :)
