Tankmate for Beau

So as soon as I free up my 5 gal tank, Beau will be moving up from his 2 gal. But he has issues with being alone. He currently is next door to three goldfish, and freaks out if he can't see them. (Otherwise he ignores them) I've been reading up on snails vs. shrimp, but I'm not sure which I should get. Someone recommended mystery snails to me, but I've read that they get pretty large. And with Beau's history of tailbiting, I'm almost positive that shrimp would be a snack.

Yeah, if you really wanted to try shrimp you could get one very inexpensive ghost shrimp and try it out first.

Otherwise, my favorite snails are Mini Yellow Rabbit snails, they also come in orange/black and brown. Some of the bigger ones can get to about 3 to 5 inches when they are full grown, no less than 5 gallons is recommended but the Mini ones which are the ones I have only get to about an inch in length making them very good for smaller tanks.

I'm having trouble finding those, I just called my area petstores and noone carries them. Someone mentioned Nerites in another thread, but doing research on them I'm a little confused. Are nerites zebra snails? If so I can just go out to my parent's lake house and drag the swim ladder up. It's always covered in them.

I would not suggest taking anything from the wild to put into your tank until you've QT it for quite a while, they could be caring parasites and other nasty things on them.

There are a few different Nerite snails, zebra is one of them, also Olive is another. I bought my Rabbits from bobstropicalplants.com for 4 dollars! The shipping is reasonable as well.

EDIT: oh yeah, mussels are no good haha
