female betta with paradise fish

So while i was in hawaii for two weeks my boyfriend managed to kill both of our male bettas (Beast and Timmy).
Anyways, I was at Petco the other day and stumbled upon a Paradise Gourami/Fish. I'd always wanted to keep gourami's, and since he was pretty cheap (only 1.50) I went ahead and got him for my tank.

I still really like the personality that bettas have and started considering females so I can actaully have a community tank. My question is will the female betta be alright in the tank with the paradise fish? Since I know a male in there would be out of the question.

I'm not familiar with them so I'm not sure if gouramis are agressive or not, or if it has long fins that a betta fish might nip at. I'd go to fishforum and post that guestion in the Guarami forum.
