What do ya know? Petsmart did something right

So I went to get cat food today and picked up a betta care brochure from Petsmart just to see what it said. Believe it or not it actually suggested a tank of at least 2 gallons and a heater! It also listed a filter as a good idea but not necessary if you do frequent partial water changes. I was shocked.

They get a bad rap in my opinion. While some stores are awful and many of the employees are rather oblivious the same is true for many LFS. Treat each petsmart like a potential LFS and guy by individual experiences. I've got three near my house, I'd buy fish from two with no reservation.

Now their little brochures on different fish aren't that detailed, but they would at least get a prospective fish keeper going in the general direction of right.

yeah dude! i got one from petco the other day and it says bettas cannot live off of plant roots and they need a gallon or higher. it also says they need hiding places and water temp in the high 70's and they need surface area to breathe from.

I have a petsmart down the road from me. I have become friendly with two of their employees, one a manager and the other one works in the fish department. They have both given me good advice when I needed it. I went to a Feeders Supply one time and the girl there was so rude. One of the bettas was floating at the top of his cup on his side and I pointed it out to her. She shook the cup and the fish moved around some and she said, oh, there's nothing wrong with him! I'll never buy from there again.
