Any problems with my idea for hospital tanks?

How big should they be? I found this for $3 and it's approx one and a quarter gallon.

I was thinking I could purchase 2 more of these and put them into a shallow 5 gallon Rubbermaid with a heater to keep them warm.

I know that a minimum of 2.5 gal is recommended, but a smaller one should be okay temporarily, right? They're fairly shallow, but still have quite a lot of swimming space.

They're fine IMO for temp housing. I have a 1g tank I keep on hand for QT purposes.

I have used these in smaller and large sizes without issues. You should test your heater for at least 24 hours before putting a fish in to be sure it's an acceptable temperature with a glass thermometer. The stick ones are not always accurate.
