Is something wrong with my betta?

I have a blueish green male betta, I got him a year ago, and he seemed to be full grown at the time. So I am not entirely sure of his age. He is usually very active, but he hasnt been for about 3 days, just floats on his side at the top of his bowl. If I tap on his bowl he will float normal and swim around for a while and then go back to floating sideways..he has had a slight loss in appetite also, but will still eat. When he does swim its not sluggish or anything. I am not sure whats wrong with him, is he cold? Or tired? swim bladder? help, please.

Have there been any temperature fluctuations or drastic water parameter changes recently?

Not to my knowledge. His water is always 76-78 degrees. I changed his water today because I thought maybe that was the problem, he was happy and swimming for a while and then went back to floating sideways at the top, swims around occasionally and the back to floating.

Okay, 76-78 is perfectly fine as long as it doesn't drop below 76.
Next step, what size is your tank and how often do you perform water changes?

1 gal, and probably not nearly enough. I dont have a set schedule, I probably should though. Every other week, unless I can visibly see stuff floating. How often should it be changed?

With a 1 gallon tank you should be performing daily 50% water changes. However, since he is ill daily 100% should be done. In such a small tank pollutants build up really quickly that is why you have to change it so often.
Is the betta in your profile picture the sick one?

It appears as though he is severely bloated and the floating on his side definitely suggest Swim Bladder Disorder. A possible culprit is overfeeding, but poor water conditions can also contribute. How much do you feed him per day?

2-3 pellets once a day, but he rarely eats more than one. Should I fast him for a few days and see if that helps?

I have also noticed that he has a slight bit of trouble swimming downward and turning around, he has to really work at it. Its probably swim bladder, huh?
