Insence?

If I burn insence, will it harm my fish? their tanks dont have lids...It's not really close to them, around five feet away. and i always burn it witht he window open so no smoke really accumulates.

I know this is a wicked ranodm question, but I'm just curious. cos I burn a pretty good amount of insence.

In my 23 years in this hobby, i have never been asked this question or heard it addressed in any fashion.

I once read somewhere that if the air around a tank is polluted, the pollutants will leach into the water. This might be applied to insence as well. I don't really know if this is true or not though.

I remember a while back someone asked about smoking around their betta and everyone gave a "don't do it" since bettas are air breathers. I would guess that this should probably follow the same rule.

people reccomend that even when painting to cover the tank,
people also say not to have plug in air freshners around
birds.
i would be alittle on the cautious side,like said if your Betta
is in the same room then i would think he would be effected.

I've got a friend who smokes like a chimney and he keeps bettas. It's kinda nasty, but hasn't impacted their health too much. The most important thing is to make sure you have water flow- otherwise a nasty slime will quickly build up on the surface of the tank, which makes oxygen exchange near impossible. Both air can't get into the water, and when your fish surfaces he gets a gulp of tar and chemicals.

I'd assume the same would be true for incense to a lesser extent. As long as it's well ventilated and the water isn't building up a slime, then you shouldn't have any worries.

yeah i figured this would be one of those strange, rarely asked questions XD
i was just kinda wondering.

i always have my window open when i burn it and i do 10% or something water changes pretty much every morning and the water usually looks good and clear.

That gross...so that means the stuff is getting mixed into the water instead.
