Brainstorm: How to entertain your betta

I love thinking of new ways to keep my guys happy and healthy. I create many tank safe "activities" for them to explore and play. But I would love to think of more or maybe share a few of mine with you :)

What do you do to keep him busy?
What tank safe items can we add to our tanks to entertain them?

I currently went on a craft mesh shopping spree! This stuff is so handy! I make all their beds from it. Then I got to thinking what else I could make... I have made tunnels... castles... hiding places... even topiaries! All my craft mesh is covered in java moss to ensure safety and comfort :) I use fishing line and suction cups (all tank safe) to create these things.
I did try the ping pong balls. Thor, my beast of a betta, has been to only one to play with it. I think I have to try something smaller for the others.

Anyways id love some input, to bounce some ideas around :)

Do you have any photos of said toys? I would love to see what mesh looks like when planted with moss. (:

I draw things on the tank in whiteboard marker for Kaida to have a good look at, he is always interested in what I am up to on his desk. Sometimes holding up a rolled up bit of paper can amuse him for a few minutes of hard scrutiny.

I was in my LPS earlier this week, and I found a Betta toy that was rather interesting..

Basically it was a float about the size of a ping pong ball, and below that there was a reflective disc about the same size as the ball.. The idea behind it was that it floated randomly in the tank, and if the betta swam past he would see his reflection in the disc and flare..

EDIT.. A quick search and I found it...

I like him to have play buddy over sometimes, but someone he can't kill.... so I float a fish-stick in his tank for a while. HA (just kidding)

I happened to get the Betta mirror for Murray a month or so ago because I'd literally never, in all the time I'd had him (since October) seen him flare, and I wanted to. And boy, when I put that mirror in there, did I ever see him flare! The funny thing is - it seems that now that he's found his inner bada$$ he is flaring all the time at things outside the tank. Soda cans, a pen or pencil he doesn't like the look of, etc. I have noticed that all of my fish (except Clementine, but that's another story) are intensely interested in everything I'm doing. I feel like they watch me as much as I watch them sometimes!
